When I am among the trees,
especially the willows and the honey locust,
equally the beech, the oaks and the pines,
they give off such hints of gladness,
I would almost say that they save me, and daily.

I am so distant from the hope of myself,
in which I have goodness, and discernment,
and never hurry through the world
but walk slowly, and bow often.

Around me the trees stir in their leaves
and call out, "Stay awhile."
The light flows from their branches.
And they call again, "It's simple," they say,
"and you too have come
into the world to do this, to go easy, to be filled
with light, and to shine."
Mary Oliver

I FINALLY figured out my Google sign in process, so have returned after a year; trees have always been a link for me to the "bigger picture"--my bumper stickers says, "I not only hug trees, I kiss them, too!"

Best of all he loved the fall
The leaves yellow on the cottonwoods
The leaves on the trout stream
And above the hills, the high blue windless sky

Nice to see you on blogger.

Julia!

At last, I've found you. But you haven't posted in a while -- will you be coming back??

I just discovered the poetry of Mary Oliver last year, thanks to a cousin of mine. I enjoy her work very much. Thanks for sharing.

Sending big hugs!

Jess
